ABOUT
Selam Selam / When Strangers Move In
Participatory filmmaking, association, essayistic documentary 25 min.
Collaboration with Lasse Mouritzen
Selam Salam is a participatory filmmaking project made with an Eritrean community, temporarily residing in an out-of-use retirement home, Hannebjerg, in the upper-class residential area of Hørsholm, Denmark. Together with the Eritrean community we started the broadcastin association Selam Selam (meaning Hello Hello), and opened up an interimistic filmstudio in one of the leftover rooms in the home. This functioned as a platform for experiments and cultural exchange, where the everyday life where documented, performed and reenacted. The process ended out in the 25 min short essaystic documentary film ‘When Strangers Move In’. The film is a poetic and nomadic mediation on becoming and fragility in relation to the new territories. The tigrinyan narration describes life as it unfolds; moments, events and feelings and their interference in time and space. Furthermore, A series of articles has been published on participation, mobile peoples, territory and film.
