ABOUT
The People’s Park / African Cup of Nations / Hypernation
Open Air Cimena, Urban Intervention, Video 4.30 min, 2015
Folkets Park, The People’s Park in central Copenhagen was for a period a makeshift home and community hangout for a group west-african migrants. This project began as a fieldwork on the everyday life in the park, which developed into a collaboration to host a public open air cinema using the content regurlarly watched on mobilephones via the local free wifi. We arranged a series of public screenings consisting of nigerian soap opera and the african footbal tournament ACN. The project reflects on (dis)connections when making home, but is also a minor intervention in the flows of western culture consumption in an event saturated city like Copenhagen. Furthermore the project consist of the short video Hypernation based on the experiences, conversations and discussion with the West-African community. The film uses shots from the camp in the park mixed with content streamed on the communities’ mobile phones. It examine the migrant as a traveler and explores the process of movement as escape, desire and dreams.
