Installation of woven tapestries, 2020
A series of tapestries created for the exhibition "Shell Time" at Palazzo Ducale, Genoa. The tapestries draw from naturalists’ and scientific surveys (spanning from the 17th century to the present day) that document the life of plants and their heritage along the rocks and shores at the site of the lighthouse and current ruins of the coal power plant in Genoa's harbor area. Drawing from these studies, the tapestries interweave 3D-modeled plant illustrations with archival images from the urban history of the same area—depicting the Enel coal power plant, the clearing of rocks for highways, 19th-century promenades, the ILVA steel industries, and the military fortress of San Benigno and more. Histories of gathering, weaving, plant territories, and industries are imagined together, creating a spatial interconnectedness that reflects the entanglement of human and non-human becoming in coastal urban sites.
